I was 13 in the hospital having my tonsils out.

After eating all the ice cream that I wanted,
I had settled in for the night.

I heard a voice whisper,
"PAM!" "PAM!"

I thought it was my imagination,
so I ignored the voice.

I had been asleep for several hours,
and I heard a loud crash.
I pushed the nurse button and she came running.
"What was that loud crash from?"

She had not heard a thing.

After she left,
I heard the voice whisper,
"PAM!" "PAM!"

Again, I ignored the voice
and went back to sleep.

The next day in broad daylight,
I heard the voice a third time.

I paid attention and asked,
"What do you want?"

My Aunt Carol answered,
"I have gone from this world
and wanted to say good bye to you,
my favorite niece."

Later that evening,
my Mom came to my room in tears
and said that Aunt Carol had passed away the evening before.

I knew then that she was actually talking to me.
I felt a great loss but knew that she loved me.
