THE MOTHER BRIDE
In an old town in the middle of Nevada,
it was late at night and an elderly storekeeper
was beginning to lock up his store for the evening.
Just as he was counting the till a lady walked in.
She was dressed in a tattered dirty wedding gown.
The lady walked over to the coolers
grabbed a bottle of milk and left without paying.
The eldery store keeper tried to stop her but
as he tried to follow he realized
he had already locked the doors
and his keys were over by the till.
This same occurance happened the next night as well.
so the elderly store keeper planned to not lock up this time.
He decided he would follow her
and find out where she was going.
As she left with her bottle of milk,
he secretly followed,
making sure she did not see him.
He followed her into a graveyard
and watched her disappear into a grave with the milk.
He thought he heard a baby crying from beneath the ground.
He ran back to his store very scared.
He grabbed a shovel from the back room.
and ran back to the grave
in which the woman had disappeared.
He dug and dug for hours
until he reached the coffin.
The sounds of the crying baby were even louder now.
As he opened the coffin,
dirt fell onto the face of the skeleton bride.
There was a live baby beside her
and three empty bottles of milk.
After making sure the baby was in good foster care,
the man took flowers to the grave.
He discovered that in the early nineteen hundreds,
the woman had become pregnant.
So as not to shame their families,
the woman and her betrothed
were getting married that day.
She was late for her wedding
and drove the horse faster and harder.
Her buggy hit a rock.
She went flying off and died,
a broken neck.
The doctor's couldn't save her baby.
They assumed it was dead
and buried her with the unborn baby still inside.
